Not sure if I have low maintence hair or what…
But when I read/see you guys’ natural hair regimens it makes me dizzy.
And then when people ask what I do to my hair and all I say is “Wash and moisturize when needed”, they think I’m lying.
I can’t do all those curly kinky methods and deep conditioning every other day and this butter and that butter every 12 hours…
You all do the most some times.
Before & After of a woman who hadn’t combed or washed her hair in two years, just simply threw on a wig everyday and went about her business.
This woman at work keeps calling me half breed.
As if it’s cute.
As if I’m of mixed race because I have curly hair.
I’m really sad.
I’m over here trying to detach with my fro for the sake of my new (GREAT) job. Hair over 2 inches high is out of dress code and well… it seems as though I’m going to be rocking a bun or braids for a longgggg time.
I really don’t like my hair being this “pretty”. lol.
A single strand of my hair with three single strand knots (SSKs). I’m on a search and destroy mission.
I started transitioning from relaxed to natural hair about two years ago and about a year into it single stand knots became a problem. Recently I’ve noticed that not only one, but up to three SSKs on one strand of hair are becoming increasingly common with my hair! I never had this problem before I relaxed my hair.
One difference I have identified between then and now is that I had hairstyles that stretched my hair. Whereas I usually have “two strand” twists now, then my hair was usually plait (“braid”, whatever) with three “strands” (which stretched my hair, as I mentioned). Hence I’m going to revert to such styles and see if that reduces SSK formation. Of course now I’m more conscious about what I use with my hair, so I’m also going to try oiling my ends.
Being a chem student I know that by doing that, if I do achieve a favourable result I won’t be able to attribute it wholly to either factor (with a great degree of certainty). But I really just want to get rid of this SSK problem quickly and (hopefully) permanently. (so no detailed experiment with this one)
A lot of my ends have single strand knots. My hair is basically full of them. I straightened my hair to do a search and destroy and my hair was pretty much knot free. A month later they were back strong… so I trimmed. I didn’t get all but most, I stretched, detangled, kept oil on it, everything they say do but a month later they were back like crazy.
I’ve learned to accept them. They don’t affect my hair growth, they don’t cause any breakage or anything. The biggest issue is that it sucks when I try to straighten my hair which is never.
I think we obsess too much over SSK’s. They’re pretty much harmless and the more you obsess over them the closer to bald you’ll get.
